iPhone battery replacement cost by model

These are Apple's own estimates for out-of-warranty battery service in the United States, taken from the estimate tool on Apple's battery repair page.

Model Apple battery service
iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max $129
iPhone Air $119
iPhone 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max $119
iPhone 17, 17e $99
iPhone 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max $119
iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16e $99
iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max $99
iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max $99
iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max $89
iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max $89
iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max $89
iPhone XS, XS Max $89
iPhone 8, 8 Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus $69
iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) $69

A few patterns stand out:

  • Within one generation, size does not change the price. An iPhone 16 and a 16 Plus both cost $99.
  • The Pro premium only started with the iPhone 16. The iPhone 14 Pro and 15 Pro cost the same $99 as the regular models.
  • The newest Pro, the iPhone 18 Pro, is the most expensive standard-size battery at $129.

What the price includes

Apple's page lists three conditions that can change what you pay:

  • Final price after inspection. Apple inspects the phone before confirming the fee. If the phone has other damage, such as a cracked back, Apple may need to fix that first, and that costs more.
  • Tax. Estimated fees "may be subject to tax."
  • Shipping. If you mail the phone in, a shipping fee may be added.

The battery used is a genuine Apple part, and Apple guarantees the repair for 90 days or the rest of your Apple warranty, whichever is longer.

When battery replacement is free

Your coverage What you pay
AppleCare (AppleCare+ or AppleCare One), battery below 80% capacity $0 — Apple replaces the battery "for no extra charge"
Apple Limited Warranty only (first year) Covers manufacturing defects, not normal battery wear
No coverage The prices in the table above

So a one-year-old phone with a worn battery is usually not free under the standard warranty. Normal wear is excluded. It is free if you have AppleCare and the battery has dropped below 80%.

How to tell if you need a new battery

Open Settings, tap Battery, then tap Battery Health. Look at two things:

  1. Maximum Capacity. This is the battery's capacity compared with when it was new. Below 80% is the point where AppleCare covers a replacement, and where most people notice shorter battery life. Apple designs iPhone 14 and earlier batteries to keep 80% after 500 full charge cycles, and iPhone 15 and later batteries after 1,000 cycles, under ideal conditions.
  2. Service message. If the screen says your battery's health is "significantly degraded," Apple recommends a replacement. If it says it is unable to verify a genuine Apple battery, the health numbers may not be accurate, so have the battery checked.

If the battery is still above 80% but drains fast, check which apps use the most power on the same Battery screen first. A new battery will not fix an app that keeps running in the background.

Apple vs. independent repair shops

Apple Authorized Service Providers can set their own fees, so a mall repair shop that is Apple-authorized may quote a different price. Apple says these providers "will provide their own estimate." An Apple-authorized shop uses genuine parts. A non-authorized shop may be cheaper, but iOS can flag a battery it cannot verify as genuine.

How to book a battery replacement

Option How it works
Apple Store (Genius Bar) Start a request from Apple's battery repair page, then bring the phone in.
Apple Authorized Service Provider Same booking flow. The shop gives its own estimate.
Mail-in Apple sends a prepaid box. A shipping fee may be added.

Back up the iPhone before you hand it over.
